CJN solar added battery storage to my existing solar system 10 days ago

Being a cautious soul, i contacted quite a number of firms to get a feel for them and, importantly get a prospective cost for installing.

I chose CJN for a number of reasons.

Jamie, the owner was the only prospective supplier who asked to visit and check out my existing system, ascertain my needs and come up with something he could offer without it interfering with my existing FIT payments.

Of all the conversations with different suppliers, Jamie had the most comprehensive knowledge and practical experience of solar and descibed and has since provided a reassuring level of both short term and long term support.

On the installation day agreed he turned up with his apprentice at the agreed time. Explained what he was going to do. Responded to and quickly resolved a potential issue with cable routing. Installed all the equipment and then spent a good length of time explaining how it worked and how to monitor its activity.

I've waited till now to provide a review because i wanted to be able to make what is obviously short term review of my experience of the system. After the first 24hrs of the battery charging up there has been a run of 7 days with reasonable weather, so with a combination of battery charge and solar production my only electricity cost has been for the daily standing charge from the energy supplier.

While im sure this will change as we move into the winter months. I will be able to save money with the use of a smart tariff , cheap rates through the night and once the power grid approve the system some export income.

All in all very impressed with CJN solar and looking forward to spring and bigger savings

Our home patch

Solar panels in Leeds, from a team based in Leeds.

Leeds homes use more electricity than the UK average, with a lot of older terraces running gas central heating but increasingly electric showers, hobs and EV chargers. South-facing roofs across the city perform genuinely well — plenty to make a 4–6 kWp system pay back inside its first decade.

Leeds is a mix: stone-built Victorian terraces in places like Chapel Allerton and Headingley (heritage scaffold rules, sometimes party-wall conversations), 1930s semis in Roundhay and Moortown (straightforward), and newer estates in Garforth, Cookridge and Alwoodley (often the cleanest installs we do). We’re inside the M62 ring for most jobs.

CJN Solar is based right here in Leeds. From Headingley terraces to new-build estates out at Thorpe Park, we’ve fitted solar across every kind of LS postcode roof and we know the city’s quirks — pitch, orientation, scaffold access, and which streets need a parking permit before we turn up.

Our page on solar panels in Leeds covers the city’s conservation areas and what its roofs make. Charging a car too? See home EV charger installs in Leeds, or find your nearest town on the map of every area we cover.

A standard 4 kWp system with a 5 kWh battery installed on a semi-detached Yorkshire home is usually £8,500–£11,500. Larger homes with 6–8 kWp systems and bigger batteries land in the £12,000–£18,000 range. We give a fixed written quote for every job — never a ‘from’ price.

Our solar panel cost guide

Most domestic systems we install in Yorkshire pay back in 7–10 years, depending on usage. After that, you’re generating effectively free electricity for the remaining 15+ years of the panels’ warranty.

How a battery shortens payback

Yes. UK panels produce useful output even on overcast days, and a typical 4 kWp Leeds installation generates around 3,400–3,800 kWh a year. Our quotes use real Yorkshire performance figures, not Mediterranean ones.

Solar panel installation

Usually no — domestic solar is permitted development for most homes. The exceptions are listed buildings and some conservation areas. We do the planning check for every quote before any work begins.
